At FBCJ, we believe that giving is an act of worship.

If you are not a member, or are our guest, we do not expect you to give nor do we ask that you do so. We do not prohibit your giving, certainly! But, if you are a guest at FBCJ, we just want to get to know you and help you learn more about Jesus Christ, His Word, His Church and His plans for your life and this world.

Members at FBCJ know that one of our Core Values is that we are "sacrificially resource-generous." Many at FBCJ give monthly, some bi-monthly, and others as they are able.

The tithe was a requirement of the Law in which the Israelites were to give 10 percent of the crops they grew and the livestock they raised to the tabernacle/temple (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5). In fact, the Old Testament Law required multiple tithes—one for the Levites, one for the use of the temple and the feasts, and one for the poor of the land—which would have pushed the total to around 23.3 percent. Some understand the Old Testament tithe as a method of taxation to provide for the needs of the priests and Levites in the sacrificial system. Hwere the Old Testament Law and provisions are clearly delineated, the New Testament is less specific.

However, though it is less specific, it is far from silent!

WE ARE TO GIVE CHEERFULLY.

"7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

(2 Cor. 9:7)

WE ARE TO GIVE SACRIFICIALLY.

43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

(MARK 12:43-44)

WE ARE TO GIVE PROPORTIONALLY.

2 On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.

(1 Cor. 16:2)

WE ARE TO GIVE WISELY.

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

(James 1:5)

WE ARE TO GIVE INTENTIONALLY.

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

(Matthew 6:19-21)
